Medical Bursary Programme

Here, at Mossbourne Sixth Form, high-achieving students are carefully nurtured in preparation for medical school and future career pathways in the field of medicine, dentistry and veterinary medicine.

An outstanding track record of excellent exam grades enables our students, year on year, to progress to study medicine and dentistry at prestigious establishments, including Cambridge, Imperial College London, Royal College of Veterinary Medicine, King’s College London, University College London and the University of Manchester.

Investing in your talent - and your future

You will benefit from an extra investment – up to the value of £1,000 per student – of additional support, activities and preparation, throughout your time with us. This demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our students are enabled to fulfil their aspirations to become the doctors and healthcare professionals of the future.

To apply for a place on the Medicine Bursary Programme, a high standard of academic achievement (Grade 7, and above, in GCSE, including sciences) is required as a starting point.

Our Medicine Bursary Programme provides you with the challenge necessary to prepare you thoroughly for medical school, and requires, in return, both hard work and complete dedication, from you.

Activities, opportunities and training

  • Membership of Medsoc, our weekly medical & dentistry society, provides you with a programme of additional study which includes visiting speakers, discussions, consideration of ethical dilemmas, role-play, projects and presentations – all designed to increase your knowledge and presentation skills.
  • Simulated medical scenarios and activities, in hospital ‘theatre-style’ environments. This is usually offered only to medical students at university.
  • Opportunities to build your healthcare and medical CV through volunteering opportunities in care, and work experience in both healthcare and medical environments.
  • First aid training and other medical-related training opportunities.
  • Involvement with outreach activities, conferences and information events held by major medical teaching universities.
  • In-house and external expert support to develop your capacity to achieve success in the rigorous entry process of interviews and examinations, including the BMAT and UCAT.
  • Expert support and mentoring provided both while attending The Mossbourne Sixth Form and, as sixth form alumni, throughout your higher education in medical, dentistry or healthcare courses.
  • A dedicated senior instructor, leading the scheme, and an expert on-site careers and higher education advisor to provide ongoing advice and guidance as you progress through the programme.
